Restoring old magazines
I was helping my father move some old stuff around in his attic this afternoon and we came across an old foot locker from his Army days. Inside was some old uniforms, boots, etc... The gold mine was at the bottom of the foot locker. There was a 50 cal. ammo can full of 1911 45 mags and two ammo cans full of 30/40 m16 mags. One problem though, most of them are about 50% rusted. The springs and followers are in great shape. How do I repair them with out damaging the magazine??????????

Just to throw out a idea to you, for the .45 mags, wold dissassemble them and remove rust by glass beading them with fine glass beads,
cleaning the beads out and reblueing them with Brownells Oxpho Blue
which is easy to use. If the M-16 mags are GI mags, most (if not all)
were made of aluminum and dont rust. The Oxpho Blue is a paste and very easy to apply, but also one needs gloves when using. Gives a
nice blue and a lasting finish. Works only on steel.0 -
Just read your last line about a "chicken outfit". Dont you believe
it young man. I saw too many medics getting killed and wounded in
saving us dogfaces. Chicken, NO WAY. My respect goes out to them.0 -
He meant chicken $hit which has a different meaning than chicken.
