super redhawk
I was at a local pawn shop that I have bought from before and they have this in a 44 mag with the 9.5 barrel for 299.00 BUT, it looks like it has been under the front seat of BUBBYs truck for 2 years. It is kinda beat up, question is can the thing be shined up or should I just grab it at that price and be happy.

I was looking at a lightly used 44 Super Redhawk w. 9" and a nice Leupold scope. The trigger feels rather smooth for a Ruger. What's your overall impression of these in terms of accuracy--I'm sure the durability is not an issue with a Ruger.

It is stainless, right? So, it shouldn't be too rusty. It is probably marred, nicked, scratched, etc.? You can carefully hand polish it to close to new in appearance using a great deal of patience and W&D sandpaper of 320, 400, and 600 grits, and wooden sanding blocks shaped to fit the contour of the piece you are polishing. Putting a few drops of kerosene on the paper occassionally will facilitate the process as it will create a slurry that assists in the polishing and also washes away the microscopic filings. I am currently performing this process on a S&W 629. If it is mechanically sound with good bore, chambers, and lock-up I'd grab it at that price. 0 -

If it is the stainless Model, mine brand new back in 1983 W/6.5 barrel was about
$325. with a x4 power scope on it you can still crack a deer with it at a 100 yards with a good rest. using 240 Gr. JHP0 -
If it works good and puts food on the table, does it really matter so much what it looks like?

Good gun at a reasonable price.Their built very well,with routine maintenance it should last a life time.

A polishing lathe (high speed bench grinder) with the correct wheels of varying abrasion will bring it to high polish that looks better than when it was new. Several hours at the most. Buy it.

Just for information to all you price "low ballers"--when I answer these questions I assume that the person asking is neither a dealer nor a gunsmith (otherwise they would obtain a new gun at a dealer price), and will pay retail or close to retail price for a new gun. The Ruger Super Redhawk currently lists for $650 in the 2002 Gun Digest; making a price of $299 and the expenditure of a little elbow grease a very good bargain. 0 -
Well after all the thinking, about it. and I did have this same gun but, with a scope that I sold back to my brother( he bought it new and was whinning soooo.And no I am not a dealer and I know I could have a new one for 529.00 or so But, it wasn't as bad as I remembered and it is a 9.5 barrel not 7.5
