Need Help Please??
Yesterday my local gun Dealer gave me a call and told me he got in a Romanian SR-1 AK-47.He made me a good offer on it,he knew I was interested in one because when Im in the shop I usually just curiously ask about one.So I bought it,it came with cleaning tools and a nice Military sling and two 30RD and two 5RD mags. What didnt come with it is an owners manuel. How do you lock the slide back on it??And it doesnt lock open after the last round is fired. Is this the Mags or is it typical?? I would greatly appreciate it if you could direct me here. And any other information on its function would be more appreciated than you could know.Any and all advice would be of great help and much appreciated.
Thanks in Advance!!!

The Owners Manual that comes with it really isn't worth having (unreadable and blotchy illustrations IMO).
Next Gun Show pickup a better one for $5.
My slide is very sensitive. I can get it to stay open if I allow it to close slowly, but no way in hell am I sticking my finger in there without holding it open manually.
I paid $284. for mine with 1-30 round mag, 1-10 round mag, cleaning kit, sling and manual.

I don't have a romanian, but my variant doesn't hold the bolt open either.
A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.0 -

There is no AK variant that I know of that holds the bolt open on the last round. There is no bolt stop, and the followers in AK mags, make no provision for one(unlike a SKS mag). This is my only complaint about the AK design.Field stripping this thing is easier than any other gun on the planet. The official US military intellegence manual
is available as a free download on line. The semi-AK's strip down just like their select-fire predecessors.

I remember reading somewhere - (probably ShotGun News) that someone is making a safety lever with a notch in it to hold the carrier back.

There is no slide stop on AKs. Some manufacturer put out a magazine having a notched follower that stopped the slide but the slide went forward when the mag was removed. 0 -
Thanks alot guys I really needed some information on this gun,as usual you came through. Thanks again.Kimber KidI guess I owe it to you to tell ya,the LAPD Swat team chose a Custom Kimber as their side arm. They did a two year study before makeing their choice.I guess I might have to put a Kimber on my wish list.I think I told you before about the Tacoma Washington PD. also going to a 1911 Kimber.

You can make a hold open notch in your safety lever, but it will weaken the lever in the process. Some of the newer Russian Saiga's do have a hold open system, but it is manually engaged, not automatic. Many people for years have thought that their AK held open, but it was just the bolt carrier going over the top of the hammer. If you did it slowly it might stay. There were some "hold open" mags available years ago. They were 20rd from China. Fairly rare, they held open on the follower, similar to a 30rd M-1 carbine follower system. As soon as you start to remove the mag the bolt slams forward, but at least you know when you are empty. 0
