1. double barreled side by side top break shotgun
2. 12 gauge / 30 inch damascus barrels
3. barrels marked "CHOKE BORED"&"GENUINE LAMINATED STEEL"
4. reciever marked "AMERICAN GUN CO. NEW YORK"&"KNICKERBOCKER"
5. serial number # 10943 (all parts match)
6. double triggers(one for each barrel)
7. case hardened reciever
8. appears to be an all parts matching unmolested gun.

the barrels are awesome. the damascus patterning is crisp and bright. the inside of the barrels(bores) appear to be perfect with no wear, bulges, or use apparent. the case hardening is about 75% with some fading. the wood is in very good shape,but needs cleaning . the forend is missing a piece of edge about 1 1/2 inches long. the gun overall appears to be somewhere just under NRA very good condition. it functions, and everthing locks up tight. the stock shows the normal wear of an older gun.

when was it made?
how to determine shell length?
what is it worth?
how many were made?
assuming low power/light load shells of correct length is it shootable(just on an occaision, not a field use gun)???
any other info would be great.

  ahh hon.. you gave me an easy one... the company was.. Crescent..
  I am copying what is in the Standard Catalogue of Firearms...
  
  Crescent F. A. Co.
  Norwich, Connecticut..
  The company made good quality inexpensive single and double barrel shotguns at its NOrwich works, beginning about 1892. It was bought by H&D Folsom of New York City, large importers and distributors of firearms and sporting goods, so they could add an American made sidelock hammer, side by side to their extensive range of imported guns..The Crescent guns were offered in 12 16 20 and 28 gauges and later 44XL shot caliber with Damascus twist laminated or Armory steel barrels depending on the shooters wants. In 1898 VL&D said these were the best American hammer guns in the market.
  Huge quantities fo these Hardware Guns were produced in a profusion of private brands as well as in Folsom's house brand "American Gun Co. of NY" and can be found on many thougsand of doubles. In 1905 Crescent first hammerless sidelock was introduced as the American Gun Co. "Knickerbocker" Model No 6. This very popular model became the Crescen "Peerless" No 6 in 1922. In 1928 it became the Crescent Empire No 60 and in 1931 the Crescent-Davis New Empire No 88, New Empire No 9
  
  Crescent was bought by J. Stevens Arms Co, Division of Savage Arms Corp about 1930. It was merged with Davis-Warner Arms Corp. successors to N.R. Davis & Sons Co and became Crescent-Davis Arms Corp. In 1932, the operation was moved to the Stevens plant at Springfield Mass, where some side lock doubles were assembled, Crescent-Davis grand guns remained in Steven't full line catalog until 1941 but from 1937 to 1941 the doubles sold in the C-D Brand were on either Stevens or Davis boxlock frames..
  
  Well now you know the history of the company.. as to the value of the gun? There are a number of Knickerbockers starting with the No 6 Armory-Hammerless Sidelock.. the No 7 Hammerless Sidelock right up to the New Knickerbocker Damascus but they are ranging in price from
  100 in poor condition to over 800 in excellent.. it depends on the model... there are about 6 pages of info in the Standard Catalogue of Firearms.. if you wish I can scan and send it all to you.. there are over 3 pages of brand names used by crescent and your gun might not be listed as they do list models by Crescents house brand American Gun Company...
