Advice on Romanian AK-47

I've always wanted an Ak-47, have a chance to buy the Romanian version in .223 Anyone know about these, are they well built etc.? The fellw's asking $325
Is that in the ballpark for this type? Thanks in advance for any help!!!

    Romanian Aks are the cheapest ak you can get. Both price wise and quality wise. They are on this site for $289 so $325 is a bit steep. Go with a Norinco, It'll cost you about $325-$400, but you'll find them to be of much higher quality. Just go to a gun shop and look at each type, you'll see what I mean. (No spray paint on the norincos)

    I have sold several sar - 1's and wasr - 10's, both are Romainian with U.S.parts, they are very decent weapons. The one AK you want to stay away from is the Egyptian Maadi.

    The gun you were looking at was probably a SAR-3. They have them cheaper at aimsurplus.com. I would take the advice that the guy above said though. Save up and by the Norinco. I was thinking about buying a SAR-1, and have changed my mind after seeing them in person. For one the finish looks TERRIBLE and the stocks are too short. My dad has Norinco MAK-90 and it is very accurate. For a little extra, it is a lot nicer gun.

    I have a very nice Poly-tech pre ban with all the features: bayonet, threaded barrel,underfolding metal stock, orginal blode funiture, chrome line barrel ofcourse, drum mag, poly-tech 30 round mags,sling, ect. I really love this AK, do I don't take it out to shoot...its worth too much $$ to knock around.

    That lead me on a search for an AK I wouldn't mind shooting.

    After going to gunshops and visiting website...I mostly found the over abundant Romanian AKs. THe receivers are poor, the furniture is poor, and the workmanship is poor. Many have front sights that are off center. On many, I found the bolts to be rather stiff when cycling them by hand. The average price is around $350.

    I finally came across a 98% condition AK that I really liked. Its a Hungarian. The receiver is made by FEG and is suposed to be one of the best stamped recievers. It is imported by KBI of Harrisburg PA. I believe most of the parts are suposed to be new or unused European pieces. The funiture is beatiful...blode wood...very smooth. I believe the finsih is a mil-spec black. The fit, finish, and function is top notch. I paid 450 for the gun.

    Comparing the Hungarian I bought to the Romanian's....there is no comparison. Those Romanians are a waste.

    I believe ARSENAL makes a good AK. Check out www.ak-47.net They have reviews and other info.

    I have a SAR-3 and for the money so far well pleased. The stock is a little short and the accuracy is not to great, but as far as shooting goes it seems to be smoother than my Bushmaster AR-15 and Wolf Ammo works good in it. The best I remember I gave $269 for it about two years ago. Another thing I make sure I keep it oiled up good because it seems to rust real easy being a stamped receiver. I do agree that you get what you pay for and if you want to put $450 is and AK you will get a better gun, this is true in almost everything.

    I have a Romanian SAR1 (semi auto Rifle)and I love it.It shoots flawless and over all is rated one of the best buys for the money.The guns that were made begining with the last four numbers in the serial NO.2001 and 2002 are of better quality than the older ones.You can tell bt looking at your serial NO.on the left side of the reciever the last four numbers were the year it was made.Example xxxx2001.Means the gun was made in that year.They are better ARs but Ive found my 2001 model to be great,except for the small stock Im of rather large stature and this is the only fault Ive found.Im working on adding about an inch or so to the stock now.And magazines are compatible to my Mac 90.

    Hallaleuyah,....some justice for the Sar - 1s. Never though one would buy an AK for cosmetics anyway. A lot of BANG for your BUCK. C-YA !
