I've never seen a Safari Arms in person. Springfield Armory makes a good gun. For target shooting, you've got a fair number of 1911s at reasonably moderate prices. Kimber, Dan Wesson and a few others come to mind. There's also a fairly brisk business in clean used target style 45s, you might find a bargain. The main thing on a target gun is a rear adjustable sight and a good trigger along with an accurate barrel. Lots of the other stuff is gingerbread.

There are so many 1911 clones & copies out there (of varying quality), that it's hard to keep track of 'em all.

Best to stick with known quality like Colt, Wilson, Kimber, and Springfied.

I'm not familiar with the Dan Wesson, although someone whose opinion I respect, says it's a high-quality gun.

I vote with Xracer on this one. I try not to show any bias but, my choices would be:
    Colt,
    Colt,
    or Colt.

    Hope that's not too subtle.

I can't come to work today. The voices said, STAY HOME AND CLEAN THE GUNS!

My 2 Cent opinion Like you I do a little action shooting at My local club, mostly target/home defence. I have two 1911 Springfields 1st one original bought by my dad in 1950 as surplus for about $25.00 through the NRA. (Don't that make ya sick,) and the second one I bought back in 1983 for about $375.00 I know Its not a speed gun but it has (Both) of them been 98% flawless. ya you will get a Jams with reloads some times (whole differant topic)

    Bowling pins
    Home Defence
    Fun

The true (and I know I will get frowned at for this) Springfield/Colt
Model 1911 is going to be around for a long time.

Unless you live in Kaliforinia like me
PS: Don't over look the other Guys post Kimber, AMT etc.
