Colt Mag, Rampant Stamp

I have a Colt 45, 1911 From WWII. Did Colt mark the mags with the "Rampant Colt" Stamp? When did Colt start to use that stamp on mags?

  This is from the coltssa site.. just do a search with google.. type in rampant colt...

  This trademark was first imprinted on the left rear side of the frame in 1890. The Rampant Colt was encompassed within a circle. In 1912 the circle was removed and the mound on which the rampant colt stood was changed.

  Don't know when they added the horse, but WWII mags made by Colt had only "COLT .45 AUTO" stamped on the bottom. WWII contract mags made for Colt had "C" stamped on the top of the floorplate lip, and "C-" followed by a code for the maker stamped on the bottom of the lip.

  Off the top I can tell you it was about 1975-76 when the horse stamp first appeared on the magazines. The pre-70's and the early MKIV's up to at least 1974 only had "Colt .45 Auto." marked on the mags = no other letters and no horse stamp.

  Commercial Colt (post-1970.) Marked Colt .45 Auto on the bottom of the floor plate. A rampant stallion (a.k.a. "prancing pony") marking was added around 1970. Still in production.

  I doubt that there is an exact date the pony was added. I own 2 NIB MKIV's, one early 1972 and the other late 1972 - both have the old style 2 piece box and both mags have no horse. I know for sure that these both came from the factory with these mags. A friend has a 1974 model that he bought used, it also didn't have the pony on the mag but I can't say that it hadn't been changed. A local dealer recently had one in nickel that was made in late 1972 and it also had no horse. I think there is a website that goes into some detail about the diiferent magazine markings,just can't remember the name of it. I know this isn't the right forum but if anybody has an extra "no horse" magazine from this era, I'd like to have a spare.
