Win. Mod. 70 Experts?
Yesterday I posted a question about a Model 70 I aquired a while back. It is just your standard run of the mill featherweight except for the caliber,.....6mm Remington. Has anyone else run across a Winchester in 6mm Rem? How rare is this one???

If this were pre-64 it would be easy to tell you what number were made in each caliber. A bit more difficult on the new ones. I suspect that one of the best folks to ask is Antique Dr. He is not around much any more, but you might go to his profile, pick an old thread and send him an e-mail by clicking the envelope icon. He will likely give you a good answer or a good lead.
I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

This model 70 was actually built in the early 1990's. It is not found in the winchester catalogs during this time period and the caliber is not listed in the blue book. 0 -
USRA, like most manufacturers, will produce a limited run of a standard model in a non-catalogued caliber if a given number are ordered. These represent the most extreme of 'niche' collectables and are not likely to appreciate significantly in value other than as shooters for many years.

Thank you AntiqueDr! I was aware that certain groups or wholesalers do special order small numbers of non-cataloged firearms. Have you ever ran across a Model 70 in 6mm Rem? I wonder who requested the 6mm? How about other calibers in the Model 70? Anyone??? 0 -
Not sure how many 6mm Remingtons were made but it was only one production run, or so I was told. As Wyo. said in the early 90's. I had two of them, I am guessing about 1-2000 of them were made. Winchester also made a limited run, about the same time of 25-06 Fwts. with the regular wood stock and also the synthetic Fwt. stock by McMillan. I had four of each of them, wish I had kept one. They also made some 250 Savages in the Lwt. Carbine configuration at about this same time. They also made as standard production, but for only 2-3 years some 7mm Rem. Mags and 300 Win. Mags with Fwt stocks, however these were regular sporter barreled actions installed in Fwt. stocks. They had Featherweight engraved on the right side of the barrel. Also some that they quit making, and I do not know why, were the stainless Fwts. in the short action calibers, 22-250, 243 and 308. My favorites were the laminated stocked Fwts. in the brown (Win-Tuff) and the green (Win-Cam). The Win-Cams were only made in 30-06 and 270. Actually, they have made a lot of variations over the production span. Hope this helps. 0
