AMT Automag II jams
Recently purchased an AMT Automag II from pawnshop. May have been a mistake but the price seemed good at the time.
It jams over half the time. The piece was very dirty when purchased and I have only been able to surface clean because I don't know how to dissasemble it.
Is it possible to obtain disassembly instructions or manual for this item?
Do AMT automag's have particular problems with ejection?
I'm a novice here and any help would be appreciated.

Over the years I've found those to usually like one ammo or another. Clean it then try different ones to see which brand that one likes. There is no "one" brand that will always work.
As for taking it apart, it is basically like a 1911, but the recoil spring guide is a bit trickier to remove. Be careful with the ejector, they like to fall out when you have the slide off.0 -
I worked on one of these a couple of years ago that jammed frequently. At that time Galena Industries (now gone bye-bye) was taking over production of AMT pistols. I consulted Galena and found out that there was a change in magazine suppliers during production. The earlier pistols should have a magazine with a black follower, and the later ones have an orange follower. I had an older specimen with an orange follower, and it forced the cartridge too high above the magazine well so that the nose of the cartridge would often jam against the side of the rear face of the chamber instead of entering the chamber via the feed ramp at the bottom center. I found it virtually impossible to obtain the old magazines and solved the problem by milling off about 1/16 inch from the floorplate at the heel of the magazine where it is retained in the magazine well by the magazine latch. This worked so well that the owner bought two more magazine and we converted them. Just a shot in the dark...but might be your problem. 0 -
I found a round that feeds well every time.
It's Winchester X22MR1. Full Metal Case.
Still important to keep it clean.
That seems to be a trait of AMTs.
It took a lot of honing and polishing on the Automag IV and about 300 rounds to get it to function proerly.
It now shoots 260 gr. hp's great. Good pig gun carried in a shoulder holster while turkey hunting when you run in to that flock of hogs.0 -
If you refer to a manual I think they recommend a certain brand of ammo.I think it's Winchester but not sure.

Many thanks to all that responded to my jamm'n Automag II problem.
Will try to get one of the manuals listed.
Will also try other ammo. Since I didn't have any other piece in 22 mag, I had just purchased some CCI at K-mart for it, but now will look for Winchester or Remington also. Maybe one of those will work better.
