old single .410
My dad has a very old .410. It says Essex SS on the receiver. It will only chamber 2 1/5in shells. It has been passed down from my great grandfather down to my father. He still shoots it regularly. Just wondering if anyone knows about the manufactor?

ESSEX: Made by CRESENT for Belknap Hardware Company, Louisville, Kentucky.Turn of the Century up until about 1925...I think you meant to say the Shell length is 2 1/2" and not 2 1/5....These old Guns arn't great Collector Guns...The Single shot guns in Very Good Condition are only Worth $75.00 to $100.00...The Doubles depending upon Grade and Damascus or Steel Barrels and Hammerles or Hammer Guns are Only Valued at $175.00 to $225.00....Best....

Thanks Captain. You are correct about the 2 1/2 in shell. Did not think it was worth to much. My dad still uses it for a garden gun. It has taken 5 groundhogs this year. Thanks for the info on the company too. 0
