winchester 88 ???

I have a pre 64 model 88 in 308 cal with a broken fireing pin. I was told by a gunsmith that to get another pin it had to come from a pre 64. Dose anyone know if this is true, or dose it matter. thanks to all who respond.

  I'm not sure that there is a difference .Call Nu Line Guns 1053 Caulks Hill Rd. Harvester ,Mo 63303 for parts 314-447-4500 or 314-447-4501 These numbers are quite old I don't know if they are still in use ? Hope this helps.
