Need help picking an air gun...

Something not too expensive that is accurate and powerful enough to kill a starling, but not so strong that it would seriously wound a cat's ass. I know very little about air guns so please be specific with specs. Thanks!

  Practically an pump-up type of gun should do. You determine how much power by the number of "pumps". I use a Daisy 856 which uses BBs or pellets. 10 pumps with a pellet will kill a squirrel with a well placed shot. Tom

  Go to Gamo's web site
  www.gamo.com they have a ton of air guns. I had to get one for possioums, aposioums, posum hell how ever you spell it!

  I have a Gamo Shadow 1000 (1000 ft/sec). I get 1/2" groups at 50 feet.
  I bought it on sale (rifle and 4X scope) for 150.00 plus tax.
  A good rifle.

  Here are a couple airgun related sites that will give you better answers. There are better guns than Gamo's for sure! - Gamo's are not bad, but there are no parts availale and any repair MUST be done by importer.
  A vintage sheridan or Benjamine is a good investment, and far better that the off the shelf new ones. Triggers on the new ones are poor and difficult to make better.
  Spring Piston guns can take allot of practice to get accurate with, punp-up's, CO2 and PCP's (Pre Compressed Pnumatic) are generally easier to shoot accuratly.
  Check the auction site for some possibles.
  Air guns can get to be a passionate hobby, you can shoot all afternoon in the back yard and not have a visit from the Man In Blue - if you use reasonable care and concideration.
  My PCP rifle shoots 3/8- inch groups at 50 yards and lays down 30 FPE at the muzzle. Prarie Dogs at 75 yards - don't stand a chance!
  Cost a little more than a decent AR-15, but gets shot every day.

  Go to Wally World and get an inexpensive multi-pump pneumatic Daisy or Crossman. You can pump them full power to kill the starlings or fewer times to scare away pests you don't want to injure too seriously. Since they are pneumatics and not springers, you can also mount an el cheapo scope on them without damaging it. The other guns mentioned are good, but you won't be able to control power with a Gamo as they are all spring piston guns, and the precharged pneumatics, while great guns, are not inexpensive by any definition. The Sheridan and Benjamin are fine for your purposes too, but I doubt you'll find them cheap at the local discount mart.

  i bought a crossman 856 at wally wold last fall, it shoots only pelles so i use the pointed ones for maximum penetration, ive killed over 100 starlings ,50 or so squirels,onl;y 1 crow though and various other feathered pests, its a pump, so if the nieghbors cat wanders into the yard 1-2 pumps scares the hell out of it without breaking skin, i bought a daisey scope for it,so it more accurate at a distance, at 10 pumps it fires at 670 ft. per sec, fast enough to kill birds and suck, buy one and have fun, just watch out for whats behind your target, those animals move sometimes and oops!!oh yeah, about $50 for gun and scope, ive seen them for about 55 or so with glasses,gun,pellets and targets, nice package deal.

  If you want something long term, I've seen scoped Beeman rifle packages for well under $100. It's basically a budget job, but you can't do better for that kind of money.
