Best bullet for Elk
I'm going to Colorado to hunt elk next week. I'm using a 7mm Rem Mag and i'm wondering what type and grain bullet would be best. The outfitter has said the shot's will be made anywhere from 200 to 400 yards. Thanks!!!!

I Would highly recommend the Nosler 160grn Partition.
If you don't reload, They can be bought in Winchester Supreme Ammo.
They are the Ticket when it comes to Elk, and they will be very accurate out to the yardage you described.0 -
bigtex is correct the 160gr nosler in winchester or federal preium is the way to go for elk 0 -
Would it matter if I used 150 gr. instead of the 160 gr?????

read the other post on the same subject, also good advise is to ask your outfitter/guide, but #1 is what shoots the best in your rifle!!! 0 -
I shoot a 7mm also. I have taken many elk with it. I shot 160 noslers and have had absolutly no problem at that type of range. I have found no advantage to 150gr bullets. The ballistic coefeicent is much lower with a 150 than a 160, so at about 200 yards the 160 will have about the same velociy as a 150, be carring more energy and will fly about the path. Why gain an inch at those ranges. Most of us couldn't shoot well enough to tell the diffrence anyway... I would go with the 160s or even 175s.
