Opinions on the Saiga 7.62 rifles?

  I have one and it shoots very good.The thing I don't like about it is it dings the brass.I know this cal. fires cheap ammo but I still like to reload.If you do not reload I would say excellent buy at the low price that they sell for.Hope this helps.

  If you're planning on firing it like an AK (rapidly). Watch out for the barrel getting waaay too hot. Also watch out for versions who don't accept big mags with out a little mod. Unless, of course, you're into that.

  I love mine--they're a terrific bargain.
  
  That said, Cheeze is right--the front grip overheats. I solved the problem by making it look like Swiss Cheese ( Cheeze should have figured that out); I drilled numerous holes in it.
  
  The finish is durable and protects the metal, but will be softened and will "wipe-away" with strong solvents (including Hoppes #9--have to be careful cleaning the barrel). I wish they'd sell them parkerized.
  
  I have the 20 inch barrel. I see 16 inch barrels are being offerred now.; I'll probably get one of them eventially--I think the shorter barrel would make the rifle even handier.
