Hunting ammo for .357 mag
First off, hello all.
Now then, to the question: I've got a 4" GP-100 that I'm planning on taking after whitetails this fall. I'm wondering what would be the best factory load to use (I don't handload...yet). I've shot everything from 125gr Golden Sabres to 158gr SJHP to 180gr SJHP, and all seem to perform about the same at 50 yards...any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

I read a while back about the Hornady XTP. It performs excellent at handgun velocity's which is what it was designed for. I use it in my 44 mag and find it very accurate. I've also seen good review's on the Golden Sabre that would be my second choice. Then I think the winchester Ranger ammo that I heard was the old black talon round without the black. I would lean on the medium to heavyer weights. 0 -
AJM... Sticking with the heavier bullets is a good idea. You want the heavier ones for deeper penetration. Those bullets are all good ones, but there is no substitute for good bullet placement on your target, so make sure you practice with the same bullets you will be using for the hunt at the same ranges you will be hunting at.
Happy shooting... Laredo0 -
If I were you I would use 158gr soft points. They mushroom well and they seem like the right choice at handgun range.
Best!!
