just ordered my Cetme
Well, after reading enough feedbacks about the Cetme, I decided to take a chance and get one. There's been more positive responses from this forum to at least try it. Heck, since the price dropped to $300 from a couple of months ago, I could not resist but to see for myself if it's worth it. It'll be just a plinker for me.
As soon as it comes in, I'll let you know how it looks and performs.
Maybe the reason it dropped in price is because it's the bottom of the bin left overs, I don't know, but I'll soon find out. gd

I too just got my Cetme in about a week ago for $299. I also got 1,000 rounds of .308 for only $119.00! The gun itself looks very good, and I took it apart for inspection and everthing checked out good. I was a bit difficult getting the stock to come off though, but from what I've heard, that is common. I'm going to the range Friday to shoot it. I'll let you know how well it shoots.

Got the rifle today. Overall appearance is, well okay. I thought the welding around receiver is a bit crude, common??. It's a stamped receiver and for $300, I did not expect a milled one. The bore looks shiny and expect to get it shinier once I take it apart and clean it.
It's really a bi*** to pull the bolt back though. Is this a common thing for this rifles? Maybe it's the new receiver, I dunno. The mags fit nice and tight, not too tight, just right.
After I take it apart, lube and check headspace, I'll see how it really is.

The problem is the cocking tube wasn't set back far enough when it was installed ... a common problem with US "Factory Built" clones. The op-rod or charge handle should act like a lever to pop the rollers back into the bolt (read unlocks the bolt) if the space between the op-rod and the bolt carrier is to wide, you don't get the camming action ... the simplest remedy for this is to build up the op rod support by having a bead of weld added to the rear, then file it down to where it works properly, if I remember correctly you should have abut a 0.04 gap between the support piece and the bolt carrier.

Thanks Kimberkid on the suggestion. Before I do that, I think I'll try to break in the new receiver first. I took it to a gunsmith to do safety check as well as check headspace and he said it's common because it's just been refinished and is a little sticky, so need to lube and charge it a bit. Everything checked out okay, so I took it to the range to test fire. Functioned perfectly and with rear sight set to 1 (100 meters?), I managed to get an average 3" @ 100yds, which is better than I expected. Because you have to rest your cheeks up against the buttstock with the "1" setting, it kinda punches you in the cheek everytime you squeeze that stiff trigger.
At least for me it does.
Can anyone tell me if it's normal to have sloppy welding between the receiver and the barrel end? There is no crack or anything, but it just looks crude. Crude enough that I might just return it, despite the acceptable performance and accuracy, if you all tell me that your weld is nice and clean. That's really the only thorn to my side right now.

GD - that to is a common complaint ... these clones were probably welded up fast without much concern to how it lookes as long as it was a solid weld ...

I just shot mine this past weekend. I was both impressed, and disapointed. Impressed with the accuracy of it! I too got 3" groups at 200yards though!
However, I was disapointed in the reliablity of it. Mine would not feed properly, and every time I charged it, the magazine would drop out, and the bolt would not pick up the next round. I fought with it for a while. Then I cured it, by only loading my mags to 15 rounds. Then it functioned very well. Perhaps its the new reciever and mag release spring, or perhaps the mags themselves, or maybe a combination of both?

When you have a mag inserted does the catch on the left side fit flush with the receiver or is it slightly higher? I've heard of this problem and its usually the receiver/mag catch fit ... the fix is usually a little work with a file on the receiver in the mag catch area ... I think the problem is that they are just punched out and that leaves a sharp edge instead of a square edge, resulting in a tighter fit around the mag catch ...
As to the charging problem, try the "HK Slap" ... in other words, just "slap" the charge handle from its locked open position and let the spring power strip the round from the mag and close the bolt ... other wise if you try to ease it closed it is normal to have the problems you are describing. Both the Cetme and HK mags are fairly sturdy and I haven't heard of anyone having problems with them ... the aftermarket mags are another story ... some work, some don't.
