Which 17 HMR?
Got the 17 HMR bug again and I'm looking at a NEF Sportster Single Shot Bull Barrel synthetic for $129 and a Savage bolt action clip fed synthetic for $175.
Which would you choose and why?

I was unaware that Savage had chambered it but Im glad they did.Either of the two guns should be good shooters, but I would go with the Savage Bolt action. My 2 cents!
Best!!

rballi,
If you really want to be overwhelmed with choices in .17HMR, check out this month's Gun & Ammo. They showcase 17 new guns for the 'little cartridge that could'. I saw the new Ruger lever action .17 this weekend at the gun show.

Between those 2 I would go with the Savage. I have seen 2 of the NEF's that were sent back because of misfires and that's just sloppy machining. They've probably fixed the problem by now but Savages that I've seen and owned and shot have generally been accurate dependable rifles for the money. GHD 0 -
rballi: I looked at both the Savage and the Marlin before I decided on the Marlin ,, the trigger on the Savage was horrible and the gunsmith i use told me that there was nothing he could do with it ,but he does work on the Marlins and does a very nice job of it mine now has about a 2 1/2pound trigger, you should be able to pick up the plain blue Marlin for around $175 to $199 0
