New here guys. I was hoping you might help me on a value of a gun. It was bought about 15 years ago in Houston, TX by my grandfather. I beleive it was built on a Mod. 98 Mauser action. It is chambered in 270 cal. On the bottom of the magazine cover there is a symbol(?) with a row of 3 symbols under it with 293 under that. On the barrel it has 270 followed by an upside down pentagon with a bunch of hash marks ( upside down crown?)on the receiver. Behind that is 293 with a backwards e under it. and the Mod. 98. I know this is probably a lott of useless info but really don't know how else to describe it. There are some pics of the gun here.: http://community.webshots.com/user/scourson

If that doesn't work I can email them if needed.

    Thanks in advance
    Steve

It has allot of engraving on the stock but I'm not sure of the any customizing on the metal parts. It has a pic of a deer on the stock and some more fancy stuff on the grip and forearm. It has a different colred wood at the end of the forearm and the bottom of the grip.

While I don't personally care for carved stocks the work seems to be well done. I like the contrast between the dark Walnut and the light Maple. Your photos are very good and more people should post them when asking questions about their guns, however,I wish that you had shown more of the action. I beleive that Saxon has it right when he said that this is a rebarreled WW II model 1898 Mauser military action. He is also correct in that there are literally thousands of these worked over Mausers out there. I have bult a number of them myself. As to value, these rifles are worth just exactly what someone is willing to pay for it. These rifles hardly ever sell used for what it cost to remodel them. The $400 figure is about ballpark, but as with everything else, value is in the eye of the beholder. Someone may offer you more then $400 for the rifle, but on the other hand don't be offended if someone offers less. Best of luck Scout

Thanks for the replies. I was just wondering as to the worth, not really interested in selling.
