HI, PUTTING TOGETER A MAUSER 71/84 BOLT ACTION FOR MOOSE,ANYONE SUGGEST A GOOD LOAD-BULLET- POWDER? ALSO PUTTING ON A 22 INCH LONG BARREL,ANY DOWN SIDE??THANKS, BRYAN

  77 grains of GOEX FF powder a 1/16 inch felt wad on top of the powder and a 375 grain cast lead bullet. Use Federal 215GM primers. Drill the flash hole to 0.0904. Velocity should be about 1350-1375 feet per second. Use a longer barrel for best results.

  Scout - Closest I have to .0904 is 2.30mm (.0906) would that work OK or is it too large ?

  That size drill will work just fine. The object is to get more fire to burn all that black powder,that is also why to use the magnum primer. Of course this enlarging of the flash hole can be over done,so I would not go any larger. These altered cases should not be used for smokeless loads.

  Just thought Id add that when you reload black powder cartridges you must fill the case full (leave no airspace)between the powder and the bullet.
