I have parts for a winchester model 1886, basically the barrel reciever the lever and the feeding tube. I am missing quite a few parts, should I try to get replacements or what would I be able to sell this for? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Could the brand name have been rusted over?

    Got pictures?

Look on the top of the barrel in back of the rear sight for Winchester markings. If there are none the barrel was changed, altered or the markings were buffed out when it was reblued. It has to be an '86 Winchester. Everything depends on condition.

The serial number indicates a manufacture date of perhaps 1889-1890. I may be wrong but I believe the .33 WCF was not available until later so I think it may very well be a rebarrel. Now having said that I'd spend the money to send out to the Cody Museum and get a letter on it. If the letter confirms the caliber and barrel length you may have a small diamond in the rough. Beach

First, thanks for the information. I'll provide some answers:
nunn: I don't believe it has ever rusted enough to have lost the name. Other than one spot that looks like a good "pit" the rest would have been very minor. If I can figure out how to attach some photo's, I do have several, I will.

v35: the rear sight is a redfield adjustable, attached by a screw at the side near the rear of the receiver. The "33" is stamped into the barrel just ahead of the receiver section. There is no rear sight attached to the barrel. No other identifiers there.

Beachmaster73: I think I will follow your suggestion on getting the letter.

Also to correct my earlier post, it is a straght lever not a curved lever (must have been asleep when writing that)

The 33wcf was introduced in 1902, and was only available for the model 1886 at the time. When the '86 was discontinued in 1935 the only chambering available was the 33wcf.

Is it possible this is a rebarreled model 71? The 71 had a sight attached to the rear of the reciever rather than the barrel. However the 71 wasn't offered in 33wcf. Would love to see some pictures if they are available.

If there's no barrel mounted rear sight or Winchester markings on the barrel in the area of where the rear sight should be, it's a rebarrel job. It sounds like someone shortened a long barrel from the breech, losing the markings and rear sight in the process.
    What is the barrel length?

Winchester Model 71 was only offered in .348 Winchester. Don't know of any rebarreling for the .33 WCF cartridge. da206 there is a significant difference in the lever of the Model 71 and the 86...you should easily be able to spot it. I think v35 got it right....it's a rebarrel. Beach
