My little brother is using a marlin 1894 in .357 mag for deer hunting and i wanted to know what a good load and bullet combo would be?

Nosler 158gr soft point bullet with 11.2 grains of Acurate #7. It's a very accurate load in a handgun or rifle. Verify all load data you receive witha manufacturer. Be safe. rg 0 -
Hornady 158gr JHP, 11.9gr Blue Dot. 1600 fps.
This is my personal favorite for 357 rifle and handgun hunting loads. But I only use Hornady for hunting loads in all my weapons. Have never used Nosler, But I here they work great also. Make sure you weigh all loads, as the data I gave is a max load.

I don't know about reloads but PMC makes a 158 gr. semi jacketed wad cutter that works really slick in mine.. Just beware you can't reload anything with points or you will get a chain reaction going in the magazine, gotta be blunts or wad cutters!!

I agree the 158GR HP or SP would be a great Deer cartridge.

gary50: yes the Horaday XTP is a fine bullet and will work just fine in the Marlin, I use them in my Marlin but in the 44 mag , also I have a friend that has used a 357 mag rifle for years hunting deer up here,in WI and has never had a problem, just make sure you limit your range 100 yards max and place your shot with care 0 -
I have used the hornady flat point 158 to take deer with a 35 rem contender, they acctually stayed together at 2000+ fps in my rifle too. They aren't a true flat point but have a relatively small hollow point( as compared to other pistol bullets). with i think is better suited to rifle velocities.
