Romanian AK?
I have a Poly Tech AK. Its is excellent condition. It has the underolfding metal stock, orginal sling, folding spike bayonet, Threaded barrel, chrome lined barrel, 3 poly tech mags with chrome followers and a drum mag.
Since it is in excellent condition, I would rather not use this AK...I prefer to keep it as a collectable.
So,
I am considering a Romanian AK. The kind that takes high cap mags and has a pistol grip. 300-350 dollar price range. Are these AKs good beater fun gun??? Do they cycle well? Do they have chrome lined barrels? Any Major headaches with these AKs? Anyones better than other? What do I need to look for? What should I stay away from?
Like I said its a beater fun gun. A local gun shop is suposed to get some in soon....I don't to may a foolish impluse buy...Thats why I am asking you guys first.
Thanks in Advance!!!!!

In my Kalashnikov collection I have two 7.62X39 Romanian AK's. The first is a WUM-1 model that imported by Interordnance. The fit and finish on this rifle is outstanding. There are hardly any tool marks to be found and it looks good and feels solid. The other Romanian AK is an SAR-1 from Century Arms. This one in not nearly as nice and looks as though Century was more concerned with getting the rifles in the country then they were about how they looked. The finish is rough and it does not feel solid or well put together.
Both of these rifles fire and function perfectly and I've yet to have a problem. Both rifles have chromed bores, but the Century barrel does not look nearly as well rifled as the Interord.. As I've said many times there is a world of difference between AK importers. The same was true years ago with the Chinese AK's. Some were exceptional and others were junk! Try to get a look at a Romanian AK at a gun show and see if you notice the differences between importers. The Egyptian AK's were notorious for quality differences. I have three- an early PARS rifle (outstanding), an Itertec (nice- but not great) and a Century Arms (looks like crap!).
There is no way to judge the rifles unless you see one so go down to the dealer and pick the best of the lot.

My Romanian AK shoots reasonably well and never mis-fires. Chrome bbl - yes. Furniture? It looks like it came from a Kroger orange crate! So what? You can always get a syn. stock. $300. on GB. Have fun.

yes as stated the Romanian AKs are good firearms. I have sold several and they have all fired well. Never had any problems. I would also suggest a syn stock as the originals leave alot to be desired. Noraml price range $250-$350. 0 -
i went shooting at an outdoor range with my m-4 carbine
and swapped with a gentleman who had a s.a.r.1
i shot 30 rd. and was so impressed
that i bought one two weeks later, sure it's not glamorous.
fundamentally it's a pure combat weapon "kinda". thanks to the ban
but it's too fun

I was displeased with the fit and finsih of the Romanians I handled at local gunshops. Most of them had stiff bolts that didn't cycle smooth by hand.
I did find one locally that cycled smooth and the front sight was straight, but that same gunshop had a beautiful SA 85M Hungarian FEG AK imported by K.B.I. of Harrisburg PA. It was in 98% or better condition, beatiful blonde wood, pistol grip setup(not that thumb-hole crap), ribbed top cover. The fit, funish, and quality is very nice. I paid 450 for her...40rnd mag include.
All the Romanians at the local gun shops were 350...so for another 100bux, I got a much nicer piece.0
