A 22 for the wife.
OK, with your help I bought my S&W 357 Mag this week. But my wife can't handle the recoil. I want to get her at .22 pistol. Well, it's not actually selfless. I want to shoot it too. With the price of .22 shells you can't go wrong. How about some recomendations?

Ruger MkII. They are my favorite plinking,target shooting 22 pistol.It takes some practice to field strip,actually the hard part was putting it back together,but after the first few times it gets easier.Just my opinion.Ace

Very tough question! What is her level of expertise with weapons? What will be her primary use of the weapon? Will she carry the weapon for protection? If so, on her body or in a purse. Is her preference automatic, revolver, or something else? I own a gunshop and women come in all the time to purchase a weapon. These are questions I ask to steer them, not always to something in stock, but something that would be right for them. NEVER pick out a weapon FOR a woman-you will always have to take it back! 0 -
Look into the Taurus 22 revolvers.Mine is stainless 9 shot with adjustable sights and 4inch barrel,and Hugue mono-gripped.If you want your wife to feel comfortable with you SW revolver,let her shoot it with 38specials.CW

Like already said ruger mk2. You can't get better. Seen one new at the gun shop today with heavy slab sided barrel, with a new Nikon scope mounted for around $350, just bought three nagants so didn't have the money to buy one or would have. 0 -
Absolutely let them handle and choose what THEY want and ONLY if THEY really WANT it. I've bought two guns for my lady and she still just hasn't gotten into it yet. Some women take to shooting and others don't, even if they support their man's shooting.
Best bet is to let them look 'em over and then rent one for a trial spin so she can try it out.
What you want should take a back seat. She'll read into this and you'll end up with the gun but not your lady's interest in shooting.

Don't forget to show her a Ruger SP-101... Thy're rather heavy, but my wife is recoil shy and doesn't even feel the recoil in the .22 caliber....

She is really into shooting. She has been using my old Ruger 10-22 rifle and is a better shot than I am at 100yrds.
I think I freaked her out when I shot off some 150 grain 357's last weekend. I think when she fired it she was scared and waiting to get a heavy recoil. I've considered letting her fire off some 130 grain 38s but thing she would probably really like shooting a 22.
This is a target gun, not for protection. Given this, any other thoughts. I really appreciate and respect your feedback.

Well it's good to know that she is already a shooter. I would suggest loading some real light target 38's if you or a buddy reload if she likes your gun.
Since she already is used to a semi-auto, the 22 gun of choice is a Ruger MkII. There are several variations and they are just plain fun. Go to a shop that has enough of these for her to peruse. FWIW, a scoped Ruger MKII is a bit heavy for the average lady.

As a handgun instructor I have seen many mistakes in choosing a handgun for someone else. Get several in her hands. When she finds one that fits her hand she will know it. The double action revolvers are easier to learn. If she is willing to put in the extra time to learn an autoloader there is great fun in that. Stay away from the 'bargain basesment' brands, these will give nothing but headaches. Happy shooting.

I just went through the same thing with my girlfriend. We tried some light 357 loads and some 38 spec. loads but it was still alittle much for her. We went to the firearms store and she decided she liked the feel of the Browning Buckmark the best. I purchased it and she couldn't be happier with the way it fits her hand, the light recoil, and the accuracy. I suggest letting her decide as long as she doesn't pick out a piece of junk.
P.S....I like shooting it myself!
