Honestly the best prices I have seen on these are on Gunbroker.com. I can't seem to find them any cheaper anywhere else. Also if ur looking for information or for a new M1A, the most informative website I have found was www.fultonarmory.com . Look in their FAQ, there's alot of useful data to be read.

There are a lot of People asking questions about M1A's. My first was a Springfield Ultra match about $1,900. 6 yrs ago It was good for starting fence post holes. Seriously I had the 4-14 second gen on it and it just wouldn't make good groups with the fed premium. had some hanson ammo that burned holes in the primers sent it back they rebarreled it got it back still not impressed. traded it for a thousand dollar credit tword a custom built one that was about $2,300. delivered Had an Armscore reciever with Kreiger 1-10 stainless McMillian fiberglass etc. The big difference in the custom over the best factory unit is the luggs in the bedding. when done by a professional the reciever is actualy held in the stock by two allen screws. Not by the trigger group. This is the best of the best. the gun i had built was the best I got it and free floated the barrel not a standard procedure since the frount of the stock has a contact point to keep the action tight longer. not needed with lugg's. so what were the results of all this? After developing a fairly consistant load about 40 fps spread through the crony I tuned the the barrel legnth to tight golf ball size groups at 200 yds. Ten shot groups not three or five with NO Fliers. Over the course of 4 yrs of High power comp I put over 15,000 thousand rounds thru this rifle. I sold it over a year ago to a police sniper.I decided to go to the AR-15. Wish I never sold it. WE went to the range after I sold it to him and he shot a dime size three shot at 100 meters. Well I got blessed this weekend Went to a 600yd match to try to sell my 7-mm long range gun that I don't have time for another $2,300 custom and found someone to trade with for yup. a carbon copy of my old M1-A. even trade. So as I said in a previous post A great place to find one of these M1-A's is in high power circles since the Ar's are dominating High power comp. these days many older competitors have these guns they rairly shoot. Last time I checked for one though I didn't have the cash I found one for $1,200.00 . Measured 3 on the throat erosion gauge. Good luck. 0 -
Wow, I'm not that good. Right now I have a basic loaded model with the a surplus H&R barrel. It out shoots me. I haven't mounted a scope on it yet. I'm saving up for the "4th" gen ARMS mounts, but I wanna put an aimpoint scope on it. I'm very happy with her. I got her on a trade up so that was good, but if I had the money and were going to purchase a new one, I'm affraid I'd have to go with a Fulton Armory service model built on a springfield reciever with a few personal upgrades.
I read that having rear lug makes the bedding last alot longer, is that true?

Lee, having the rear lug on the M1A increases the area of the bedding surface considerably (I think about doubles it) so there is a smaller load per unit area on the bedding from recoil. This can't help but increase the bedding life.

lee,
Guess you are still on a budget?0 -
LOL, heck yea, I'm still on a budget, actually, since I've drawn out a budget, I relaized how much money I was blowing on absolutely nothing, and how much free money I could have to spend. I should have $150 free money every week to spend on whatever I want according to my budget. Now I just have to get caught up on my bills and ahead a week, and I'll be set.
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.
