I would like to better understand what the meaning is on a couple things I see on a lot of adds. What do they mean by a gun having a dark bore with good rifles? Is the bore actually damaged if it is not pitted? What does frosted bore mean. I fully understand you look for a bright bore with good rifles but do not understand what kind of trouble you got with a dark bore. 0 -
You might slick it up a little by using some abrasive paste like midway or brownells sell. The thing is that most or all sks have chromed bores and I'm not sure what kind of results you're going to get by trying to rejuvenate a bad bore on one of them.

Some blue wonder gun cleaner, coat the bore liberally, let it set for a while, then take a nice little ball of steel wool, coat it with more BW and use alot of elbow grease pushing that puppy up and down the bore.
That or maybe firelapp the bore.
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

A lot of the dark will likely come out with Butch's Bore Shine, and some work. I would use BK's bore paste over steel wool, but if you try the wool get 0000 or finer.

YOU CAN CLEAN IT, AS THEY SAY ABOVE, BUT THE PITTING WILL NOT GO AWAY, WITH OUT A BARREL REPLACEMENT, TRY CLEANING, THEN SHOOT IT TO SEE IF THE ACCURACY IS STILL THERE, THE ANSWER WILL BE IN THE RESULTS OF YOUR SHOOTING SESSION. 0 -
Thanks for the info. Tried hot, soapy water; ammonia and water; jb bore cleaner from brownells; tried right after shooting 10 rounds; tried steel wool; tried steel bore brushes; no luck. Anyone want to buy an expensive club? 0 -
how does it shoot??? if it shoots accurate/good groups don't worry about the bore. if it doesn't sell it or take it back for refund.. 0 -
I've seen several military rifles with ugly bores which still shot well - most Krags look like hell but they sure shoot. I'd just use Blue Wonder or Butch's - both are GREAT products . . . I can't make up my mind which is better. I'd try cleaning chemically with these products before I tried mechanical (abrassives) methods. I picked up a SKS dirt cheap because the bore looked worse than an 18th Century sewer. A little work with these two products and I discovered the bore was practically pristine. You may be surprised what is under the crud! 0 -
The question is how does it shoot?
Dark bores can shoot very well and were not one of the criteria for rejection by the Army unless, in addition, a single pit extended across a land or groove.0 -
You may clean but a pitted bore is a pitted bore. Forget
fire lapping, waste of money and time. Re-barrel or cut the receiver and submit serial number to ATF. Junk is junk. 1010 -
Darn, I thought this would be about Judge Dread!!
