Savage Stevens Model 340 vs Model 325
I just purchased a Model 325C 30-30 - how does this rifle differ from the 340 Model - they look identical in the few photos I've been able to find online. Does anyone have any favorite reloads for bolt action 30-30's or do I need to stick to the lever action reload data?
Thanks

About the only difference(I know of)is the knob on the 340 compared to the flat type bolt on the 325C.

you need to stick to the lever data, the cases are not thick enough to add more pressure. they will split just in front of the rim. had a friend rupture several in a 788 rem in 30-30. you can use pointed bullets if you are sure that they will not end up in a lever gun.

You can shoot pointed bullets in a lever action.Just load two, one in the chamber & one in the mag.

Thanks for all the information guys - I'm kinda disappointed that I must stick to the lever action reload data in a bolt action but at least now I understand why.I don't own a 30-30 lever action so I'll reload with strictly pointed bullets.
Thanks again,

capecod,I've been reloading pointed bullets for the 340 or 325C for about 40yrs.Never had a problem .Just be careful and keep loads by the book.

Thanks ATF - Originally I never thought to consider the strength of the brass itself - just the strength of the rifle's bolt action. So I assumed (big mistake) that I could safely increase the reload data listed in my reference books.I originally wrote asking for this "bolt action" reload data and immediately was told by members that this wasn't the case. I would have never "guessed" at an increased load and experimented -I'm not that foolish - but now I know the reason and have a better understanding of reloading considerations.
Anyway to make a long story short, I've been on the Gunbroker Forum for less than two months and have learned more about firearms and reloading over this short period of time than I have over the past 30 years! Great bunch of guys on here - its like one big family of shooters and I learn something new virtually everyday.
Thanks to all of you!
