M1 Carbine, Odd Barrel

Have a M1, non import, 7,000,000 range Inland with an odd barrel. Just a "V" where the date and maker would be. No date, no maker, nothing else. Weapon is fresh from the vet's closet after 50 years of storage. 100% Inland parts otherwise. What is the significance of this marking?
