What you probably have is known to collectors as a "Spruce Rifle"
The NRA magazine had an article about this a few months ago.
If I remember right, the US military bought these 94s as "home gaurd"
weapons during WW1 . They got the spruce rifle term because many were used to gaurd the logging industry or something like that.
They are more valuable than regular 94s.

The serial number range of the military marked 94's, is shown in this article.

Great caution must be shown, as relatively few of these 94's were purchased, over 85 years ago. Many fakes have been pawned off on folks over the years. If the 94 isn't in the correct serial number range, it's quite probably a fake.

Thank you rufe-snow! Fascinating reading for this old "history buff gun-nut" ex-Mainer. [:)]

    Hi list members,

I have a model 1894 Winchester Saddle Ring Carbine manufactured in 1918.
Have an unusual marking on top of the receiver.....
    'US', with ordinance flaming bomb.

Does anybody have any info on this particular rifle?

    Many thanks,

The only thing worth adding, is that your Model 1894 SRC was manufactured in late 1917 versus 1918.
