capecod, For at least the past 10 years (maybe even longer) I have used my old Bushnell Sportview Truscope. This is a very basic bore sighter which comes with just two arbors- one for .22 and one for
.30. The arbors themselves are the rods which are placed into the muzzel and hold the bore sighter in place. 15 seems like a huge number to me and unless you have 15 different caliber rilfes you plan on shooting you could cut out a few...like a dozen!
You'll find that many companies market these basic bore sighters and using them is nearly fool proof. You simply place the arbor into the muzzel, attach the bore sighter, and look through your scope. You'll see a grid inside your scope clearly marked left and up. You simply adjust your scope until the cross hairs line up with the center of this grid. This method is as old as time itself and while not a percise as the hi tech lasers, it will get you on paper. This system has always worked for me, but then a a cranky old guy who hates to change! Newer methods may well be easier and better.

I have a rather inexpensive bore site by Laserlite - around $100. This thing is great. The arbors are to fit a small rod correctly into what ever bore you have. The forward end of the rod is tapered so it is self aligning. I didn't think this thing would work for anything but handgun sites (around 20 yds). No, I can shine the laser 100 yds+ on a pole down the road and site a rifle. If you happen to have a red dot site, you don't even need a steady rest. The site and the bore laser move together so it doesn't make and difference how unsteady you are. A great investment.

cbxjeffIt's too late for me, save yourself.

capecod,, I also hqve a Bushnell bore siter kit. Mine is a little newer thn the other guys. I have 3 abors (rods) in my kit, 22-28, 30-40, 40-45 cal. I also purchased a abor so I could mount and bore sight 12 guage slug guns and 50 cal muzzleloaders. I think I paid $45.00 for the kit and another $20.00 for the 50 cal bore abor. I have used this bore sighter hundreds of times and have had many rifles after I bore sighted them hit the bulls eye at 100 yards on the first shot. You can't go wrong with the Bushnell kit.

I got one of the Leupold boresighters last year, and found that it works well. I can't figure out HOW it works, since it has to compensate for varying scope height, but it DOES work.

If you get a boresighter with arbors, be sure you NEVER remove the boresighter from the arbor while in a rifle. Firing a rifle with an arbor in the muzzle could be fatal.

couple of years back, i was working at a public shooting range, a man & son came in about 45 min, before closing(dusk), to sight in a marlin 444. about 35 min. later he came in to the range house, bitching about the poor quality of marlin firearms..ask why he showed me his rifle, the forward 3 1/2" missing!!!!!! asking what happened, he didn't know, but was going to call a lawyer about it and wanted us to find the missing end! by then it was dark & couldn't find it. the next AM went to work early and about 20 yds from the bench, was the missing end of the barrel, COMPLETE WITH BORE SITEING ARBOR & BULLET!!! called him & told him what i had found, suggested MARLIN was about the finest firearm money could buy!!& that it my very well saved his life!! NO LAWYERS NEEDED!!
