Ok guys need help on this one. ABout to purchase a new handgun. I'm already using one at my job. Now there's a problem, our gunshops here will only sell you the damn gun, you can't even try it before so here's my quick list:

Glock 22
Beretta 96
Ruger
Note they're all .40 S&W caliber. and if you wanna suggest one remember that here in Canada we can only buy those with 4.12" barrel lenght on over.

Sig, Glock, High Power, Beretta, Ruger in that order....JMHO...I actually like the Hi-Power best, but have fired a few of the .40's that were not up to Brownings usual quality.
Guns only have two enemies: Rust and Liberals....0 -
Definitely agree with William81, the only change I would suggest is to consider a Sig 229.

You may also look into the Springfield XD40
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

I also agree with the others. The only way I would change any of the choices would be for specific characteristics of a certain gun ie compact, sub-compact, plinker, duty gun... I might pick a Glock 23 if I had to wear a gun all day. I remember when I would carry my Sig 226 all day kind of got heavy half way through the day. Glocks are lighter and still very functional. 0 -
agree with all. buy the sig. would also suggest the 229, however, your barrel length requirement knocks the 229 out of the running. GET THE 226. I've never heard of someone not liking their sig
Give your kids roots and wings. and dont forget the guns!!0 -
For the Money buy the Ruger,if money is no object I would feel the Sig and the Glock and see which has your best point of aim.Either one of the three guns if well taken care of should last you a lifetime.Another option you didnt mention would be the CZ 75.
Best!!!

I agree with William81, but would add the H&K USP40 for my first-place preference. I own a USP45 and would certainly NEVER trade it for another .45. Features I like about H&K's design (same architecture for 9mm, .40 and .45 USPs) over the Glock:
-Abidexterous mag release: faster, smoother reloading
-Abidexterous safety
-NO DAMN TRIGGER SAFETY
-Front sight hole is a 'dovetail', which makes for more accurate front sight replacement
-Stock sights are 3-dot (personal preference)
-Easy and fast to break down and clean
Of course, the most important thing about buying a gun is how it feels in your hand.

do they have them in stock? can you fondle them? pick the one that feels the best!! the one that is most comfortable in you hand, all the brands you picked are high quality. something you may want to consider, being in canada, parts, service, weather, also the beretta & sig could be easily changed to another caliber with just a barrel, or slide & barrel & magazine. also the ruger being ss. 0 -
Take the Browning. 0 -
Browning hi-power is not only a great handgun, it is also the most attractive of all the guns mentioned. Also still plenty of high cap mags at reasonable prices. Its has the best grip angle of any pistol made. That makes it a natural pointing gun. I've had most of the pistols mentioned and the only one I have (besides 1 s&w and a few revolvers) is the hi-power. Not only does it shoot great ,it looks good doing it. Just my 2 cents.

should add the CZ 75 or 85 to your list. no doubt the most gun for the money. Top quality guns

Sig all the way. Since the 229 is out go with the 226.

I vote for the sig, but I also like the H&K USP. 0 -
First choice is sig sauer, Second would be a HK which you did not mention, Third choice the beretta, And forth choice is the browning which is a tie with third choice, And hopfully by now you have choosen one of these, Because the others you mentioned arnt worth a darn. Oh yah what about smith&wesson, They make fine pistols also.
My 2 cents

I have to agree the Sig 226 will not do you wrong. 0 -
Which one fits your hand best? It's the only thing that matters. 0 -
I highly recommend an HK USP. I have an HK USP Compact .45 with night sights in variation 1. Variation one is SA,DA, decocker, cocked&locked, ect.
I have many other and guns...including Glock....but the HK is my choice.
I was at the Range with my HK and a Glock 30(.45). The HK outshot the Glock hands down. The trigger pull is better, it is definitely more accurate, it cycles better....just a better overall pistol. At 70 yards I was shooting 5"groups with the HK. The Glock was shooting 8-9"groups. Everytime I take it out...I wind up using atleast 100 more than I planned, because the HK is such a joy to shoot...
The HK is definitely worth the extra $$.
I will never sell my HK.
As a matter of fact...I have it on me right now.0 -
oh yeah
The mag release on the HK is superior....easy to uses and you won't have anymore accidental mag releases. I had that problem with the Glock, the the mags were always popped loose, my belt was pressing the mag release. The Glock mag release was too sensitive.
The design of the HK mag release is much better.
Check out the HK0 -
Thanks Diablo, I had forgotten to mention the decocker as a design element of the H&K that I have appreciated more and more over the years!
I shot a CZ .40 the other day. It's a cheap gun, but it fired very well! I don't know how reliable it is over the long haul, but I'd recommend checking it out.
