Hello shotgun experts
I recently acquired a 20 ga. Remington model 1100, SN L2746xxN On the barrel it reads 20 GA.MAGNUM for 3 in shells. The receiver is marked "magnum" also. Will this shotgun function with 2 3/4" shells or will only 3" shells work properly? Thanks to everyone
Worry is the interest humans pay on the debt of miscalculation.0 -
No. Parts is parts.
Note that the receiver is aluminum because it is not a stressed part.

No. Skeet and trap shooting guns go through a lot more ammo than hunting guns. 0 -
all the same. Different barrel/rib configurations is all.
A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.0 -
While on the subject of the Remington 1100, I recently bought an old .410 LW model and it has the magazine plug behind the magazine spring. All of my other shotguns have it where you can just pop them in outside the spring. Is this possible with the 1100? If not, how about if I swap out the mag spring retainer? Thanks for your insight... 0 -
The magazine spring retainer is removed by pulling it straight forward. Seems like there should be a tool (like a steering wheel puller), but I've never seen one; maybe a spring clip tool would work. I put a screwdriver in the hole in the center of the retainer and GENTLY pry it forward, working my way around the edges.
No, there's no other way to insert the plug in the 1100.

I DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THE SPORTING MODELS, BUT I HAVE HEARD TRAP SHOOTERS SAY THAT THE 1100 TRAP MODELS ARE MORE DURABLE. ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS? 0 -
If so, it's not due to any planning on Remington's part. My 1100TB was so durable that it had to be returned to Remington (and was subsequently scrapped) before I fired a single shot.
However, standard trap loads are relatively light, so theoretically the shotguns should be able to withstand a greater number of rounds than one fired with heavy hunting loads. And, of course, trap guns are not dragged through swamps and fields.
