WINCHESTER BARREL

I saw a Winchester bolt action in 300 win mag, with out rifling in the last 2 inches of the barrel( last 2 inches meaning close to the end of the barrel and lets not get in to any safty stuff, the bolt was out of the rifel so I could see down the barrel ) was their a reason for this, or is it another Winchester SCREW UP.

  WHICH END, CHAMBER OR MUZZLE? IF THE CHAMBER END (BY THE RECEIVER) THE RIFLE PROBABLY HAS BEEN SHOT A LOT AND THE RIFLING HAS WORN AWAY THAT MUCH. IF THE MUZZLE END, DOES THE RIFLE HAVE AN ADJUSTABLE DEVICE (BOSS) AT THIS END? IF SO ITS MADE THAT WAY, IF NOT THE RIFLE HAS BEEN CLEANED TO MUCH FROM THIS END AND THE BARREL IS JUNK.
