Colt 1911 Blued Full length Guide Rod
I know there was a post about this before. I did a search, and it wouldn't work. The kit comes with a new recoil spring, and a allen wrench. I have no idea how to install this. What's the allen wrench for? I'm sure I can figure it out, but any help would be great.

Hello "rameleni1"
Does the end of the guide rod that came with the kit have a place for the allen wrench to fit into??????
If it does, then any number of us on the forum can assist you in getting it into the 1911.
I have some Tokarevs that I had full lenght guide rods made for. They are two piece, with a slot cut for a screw drive blade in the end. I wish that the person who made them for me could have made them so that an allen wrench would fit into the end rather than a screwdriver.

I don't know if the end will fit a allen wrench. I ordered the part yesterday, and I'm waiting for it to be sent. I just wondered if anyone else had one here, and how it went together.

Hello "rameleni1"
If it is similiar to the guide rods I had made for my Tokarovs, it will have two pieces that screw together. The "base" piece goes in the frame and the spring goes over it. The 1911 is then reassembled and the barrel bushing turned into place. The other part of the guide rod is fitted down the hole in the bushing and the two parts screwed together. The end of the completed guide rod will stick out past the bushing and "lock" it to keep it from turning.
Be sure --- real sure --- extra sure that you lube the threads of the the guide rod with a good lithium based grease. If the threads seize together, then your gunsmith is going to have to get it apart for you.

I don't think that is correct. The spring stop, must have a hole in it, to let the guide rod pass through, and keep the spring in place. They can't be screwed together. I think I know how this works. The spring stop must have a very thin rim to it, to let the guide rod pass, and be kept by the barrel bushing. I just think its going to be very difficult to install. I also have no idea what the allen wrench is for. I was hoping for someone who has a 1911, and installed one to reply.
