You probably could use a limited amount of +P ammo;use regular ammo for practice and a few +Ps for reliability check if you are using a HP round. I'd recommend Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P.

I'd advise just saving your money, and use plain old white box Wincheter Hollow points or equivlant. If you really want more powerfull ammo, I'd advise going to a more powerfull gun. The 9mm itself is plenty suffiecient as a self defense cartridge, there's really no need for any special ammunition. Don't get caught behind the myth of a one stop shot.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

I would advise against the +P. The Star BKS was known to have frame problems with std 9mm. Shoot the standard vel hollow points and keep a close eye for frame cracks and fatigue. Wonderful feeling little guns, small, flat, light but if I remember right it was their first venture into the lightweight world and a learning process for them.

In that case I'd look into lower pressure cartridges, maybe 115gr FMJ ammo.
