i just purchaced a sten carbine kit & noticed the little button on the side.
its marked A on one side & R on the other.
can anyone explain the meaning of these letters?
also the actual function of this button?

barto, The "R" stands for repitition or semi automatic fire. The "A" stands for- you guessed it- automatic fire. Directly under the safety slot is the button which passes through the gun from side to side. If you wish to fire semi automatic, push the button from the left side. Automatic fire was brought into play by pushing the button from the right. F.Y.I., I mentioned this in another STEN post: it would be difficult, if not impossible, to build any type of LEGAL firearm from one of these STEN kits. Please be careful!
