Federal Premium excessive pressure

You asked me to tell you when Fed responded. Here it is. Background. I've used Rem 700 and Fed prem for yrs, everywhere, no problems. This spring in Africa, I had extraction problems to the point where I only had a single shot. Sight in ammo, no problem, hunting ammo bad. After hunt my Gunsmith tested gun with hunting ammo and others, same extraction problem with FP, none with others. Ammo went to Fed for eval.They state unfired cartridges are in spec on dimentions;pressure and vel tests normal; function firing in their 700, again normal. Was this written by lawyers or ballisticians? I don't know. They are sending 2 boxes replacement ammo and keeping the "in-question" stuff. That's ok by me. I am going to replace the extractor just in case this happens again someday. wjh

  wjh, JMHO, but sure sounds like an element of CYA is involved here. Would have been interesting to try the particular lot of ammo in another rifle before it disappeared into the system.

  Well it seems you should get a lot out of them for messing up an exotic hunt to africa. Was it the high end ammo? I doubt they would admit it if it was bad. I have found the manfactures wont admit even well know problems.

  Does not suprise me, I have had years of problems with Federal ammo, to the point now that I will not shoot ANYTHING made by them
