30/06 bullet question
My question is for the reloaders out there. I noticed in the Cheaperthandirt.com catalog they have some armor piercing 30/06 bullets for sale. Can they be used in a .308? I know nothing about reloading and would like some input. I have no intention of having them loaded, I would just like to buy them and leave them in the basement for a few years as an investment since they are no longer going to be available.

AP can be used in any application where standard ball can be used, so long as the weight is the same as the ball (and therefore loads match). Remember the part of the projectile that is AP doesn't come into play unless and until the bullet hits something. So yes, a .308" pulled or surplus 30-06 bullet will work fine in .308 if you follow load book info for the bullet weight.

Bear in mind that the use of AP ammo is illegal in some jurisdictions even where it is legal to own it. Better check before loading some for shooting. 0 -
If the bullets are canelured, it may not match the seating depth of the .308. You can use a taper die for use in auto's or no crimp at all if used in a bolt rifle.

Thanks Iconoclast, I don't intend on loading them, just keeping for historical value, and a future investment. What on earth would I use them for anyways? Please nobody answer that.

Where did you get such an idea? There must be a gazillion of these available now and more are being produced every day.

Really Shootist? Darn false advertising by cheaperthandirt.com. They said they are no longer available to the general public....Maybe I won't buy from them anymore........NawWwwww.
Where else can they be purchased? I'd like to shop around for the best price.
