daddo, You can have a good gunsmith lighten the factory Rem trigger down to 2-3 pounds if he's good. I don't really see the need for a replacement trigger for the 700 for varminting. My 222Mag with the 40X barrel still has the original trigger and it breaks at 22 oz! That's light enough for most (99%) of the shooters out there and too light for 75% of them. I have 4 700's that all have the factory triggers and none break over 3 lbs. Try to get it done before you go the custom trigger route. GHD

Customs are sho nuff expensive. Take your gunsmith less than a hour in most cases. GHD has the answer as usual. I need to move near that guy so we can waste varmints.

There are two small screws on the front of the trigger and 1 small screw on the back of the trigger, or visa versa (I havn't had one apart in a while). It is the two screws together that need turning. The one by itself sets creep. Adjust them little by little until the trigger breaks the way you want it to. Be sure to check that it will not fire on safe position. If it does, you have adjusted too far, and then must adjust the single screw to allow creep. You can get it to break like a glass rod, whithout adding in the creep, and it is perfectly safe. I have done this to all of mine, and a gunsmith was the one who showed me how. It is a learning experience just as anything else, but once you have it, it will save you trips and time to the store in the future. You can get them down to approx. 2lbs with the first two screws. They will have a dab of clear fingernail polish (not exactly, but that's the best way to explain it) on them. You will need to take your small srewdriver and pry it off of the screws before you can adjust them. As GHD has stated, do this before the custom trigger. If you don't have a custom rifle, the custom trigger won't be fully utilized anyway.

Then of course, there is a jewell trigger.

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

JustC, I didn't go into detail but you are correct in that it is a learning experience! And yes, clear fingernail polish seals them just fine. Loc-tite was what I used to use if I did one for somebody else. I figured they'd never think to heat the trigger mechanism to try to fiddle with it themselves! DON"T USE LOC-TITE!!! GHD
