C&R License In Chicago
I know the getting an FFL License in Chicago is impossible, however, I am aware you can buy and register long guns in the city just not handguns. Are the any problems getting a C & R license in the city of Chicago and are the firearm purchases OK (handgun or long gun) because they would fall into the "antique" category? I hope someone had knowledge about this without me having to call the ATF.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Here's a link you might check www.nraila.org click research then state laws then IL. on the map. According to this no handgun may be registered after 1982. From "State Laws and Published Ordinances" for Chicago all firearms must be registered within 48 hr of arrival and you must have a FOID ( firearms owner's ID) Antiques are exempt and here is a definition: ANTIQUE FIREARMS- means any firearm, including, but not limited to, any firearm with a matchlock, flintlock, percussion cap or similar type of ignition system which is incapable of being fired or any firearm manufactured before 1898 for which ammunition is not readily available and is possessed as a curiosity or ornament or for its historical significance or value. I think the operative words here are "not limited to" and "Curiosity of historical significance or value" There is a no. at that link for the State Police if you have more questions. The C&R license enables you to acquire and dispose of ( in order to expand or change your collection) firearms without having to go through the added expense of going through a dealer. They can be shipped directly to you. You will still have to go through the registration process for any firearm that is not exempt.

Yeah but don't count on ANYTHING going over inside the Chicago City Limits as far as handguns are concerned, antique or not, if you tell so much as one other person about your "collection." There's an election coming up in November for Governor of this great state; both of the likely winners aren't pro-gun & the one most likely to win it (even though he admitted yesterday that he'd smoked pot more than once in his earlier days) is a close friend of Chicago's Mayor Daley. Come Election Day plus 1 this state could surpass New York, New Jersey, and California in firearm limitations. Now consider that these laws don't apply to City Alderman, who can carry concealed weapons, or Judges either, & you can draw your own conclusions. 0 -
When I moved to Illinois from New York City, it soon became apparent that Chicago was worse than NYC as far as gun ownership, so Chicago was quickly scratched from my list of possible places to reside. The rest of Cook County is also quite restrictive as far as FFLs and their operations are concerned from my understanding--Daley's grasp has a long reach. Best possible bet might be neighboring DuPage county if you wish to acquire an FFL.
