Anyone use a Savage 10 5- cal muzzle loader
I took my new one out last weekend and fired one round with the approved load of smokless powder. I ran a lightly oiled patch thru the barrel. The next charge would not fire. I took the gun home and cleaned all traces of excess oil from the barrel, plug, and nipple including the flash hole. I took it out again yesterday and it still will not fire. The gun ignites the primer, but the powder doesnt burn! Has anyone else had these problems? The gun was oil free yesterday and still it wont go off! Im thinking Ill need to take my remington 700 muzzleloader out for elk again this year. It has never failed to fire even after a dozen rounds and several greasy patches to clean the barrel. Thanks

I purchased a new 10ml in stainless a few months ago. First time I shot it, I blew a couple of caps through it. After loading with imr powder to spec. It would not fire. I took the bolt out and cleaned the gun and cleard the "vent" hole with compressed air and has worked fine ever since. I would suspect that the hole is clogged. I have thought about opening it up a bit with a small bit, however I am not sure as to the safty of doing it. Other than that one problem I love the rifle!

gunnut: I don't think that would be a good idea !!! if you open up the vent hole remember thats the only thing between youy face and that powder, the bigger the hole the more presure can escape backwards towards your face 0 -
Thanks! Ill clean it out better, but I thought I did already. 0
