Ruger PC40
I recently saw one for sale at $460. I loved the feel of the weapon and I'm in the market for a semi-auto carbine that shoots .40, .44mag or .45 with a magazine capacity of 10 or more rounds. Since I live in CA, that means either a 10-round pistol mag, or tube-feed, and no pistol grips are allowed The PC40 seems to fit the bill for what I'm looking for, but I wanted to get some expert opinions as to the cost/quality ratio of this weapon.
-Is it worth the price?
-What is the effective range of the .40 carbine?
-Are there any other semi-auto carbines I should consider?

I just bought a PC-9 and I love it. $460 seems a bit high, but it all depends on your area. They had one at a shop around here recently for $400. Got mine for $339, but that was quite a good deal. Another shop around here wanted $575 to special order me one, so I guess you should draw your own conclusions on price. I opted for the 9mm because it's cheaper to shoot and has less recoil. After all it is a fun gun. I also plan on getting a Ruger 9mm pistol down the road and they use the same mags. I find it's a lot more accurate than I expected. Hope I was some help.

You can get Glock mag well conversions for them from lone wolf dist. too.
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

Had mine for about two years; question is, effective on what? .40's a great pistol caliber, ballistically, and from the PC's longer barrel it gets somewhat better. Mine will group factory 180 grain FMJ's nicely in 2" at 50 yards off a benchrest with the stock ghost ring sights. Haven't tried penetration tests on soaked phone books but I can't believe the extra FPS wouldn't deliver a harder-hitting projectile than a pistol. I have Ruger's 44 Mag Deerfield as well which does very well at 100 yards with a 6x scope; haven't yet tried the .40 at that range. 0 -
But they're so much fun, dammit!
