Hutson Handgunner Scope -- VALUE?
Hi, I'm new to this forum and hope that I can contribute as well as learn from other members.
I have a Hutson Handgunner 1X scope with rings, mounts and much if not all of the literature that came with it at the time of my purchase. It is in excellent condition as it was never mounted to a weapon.
Would anyone know the value of this package, is it considered a "collectible" as it was one of the first handgun scopes introduced into the market?
Thanks for your insights.
Jay

I have some information that may help you. I picked up Hutson handgun scope that was made by the Optics Division of The Hutson Corporation located in Arlington, Texas. They made early scopes for handguns. The one I have was made for the High-Standard Supermatic. The scope fit into a single ring mount that was to be epoxy bonded to the receiver. I was told by one of the engineers that this was not well accepted by gunowners. The one I have has no indication of power and has a patent number, # 3,172,941. I do have the orginal, one typed page of "Instructions For Mounting Handgunner Scope"
Now, what I was told by this engineer is that this line of optical scopes was acquired by Baush & Lomb and became part of their product line. He said that not many of the Hutson scopes were every made and fewer were sold. I did not think to ask him about the extend of the product line.
I have seen three offered for sale in the last few years. The condition was not good, and two did not have the mounts. The prices ranged from $140 to $250. They have been listed in recent books on "early scopes" at starting at $150 and going up, but again there is little information models, features or individual prices.
If you have any information on your that will help me, please advise.
