Revolver Fabrication
Has anyone ever done this or is this possible? Through Cabela's they have black powder revolvers, real cheap. If you bought one, took off the cylinder and installed a cylinder from a cartridge pistol would it work? Sure you would have to ensure clearances with the barrel, hammer was properly shaped to hit the primer instead of a snap cap, but what if.....

I think you are talking about the copy of Colt SA that is set up as a percussion. I saw somewhere that their conversion to perc includes some kind of off-set of the hammer so it will not be easily converted to center fire. Even if the hammer is centered, the striker for a perc cap would need rework for center fire and the slot in the frame be filled in to support the center fire primer. I have converted Cabela's Remington perc and their 51 Navy perc to .22 RF. A lot of work, equipment and skill involved. 0 -
I've seen kits to change a Ruger Old Army to .45 Colt. These are very strong guns but I would not try this with most of the black powder revolvers.

There are such kits for most of the solid frame .44 revolvers.
They have a letter from the BATF saying they are perfectly legal.
Dealers tell me they will not sell me a revolver & conversion kit AT THE SAME TIME but will sell me both seperately. (And this is in the People's Demokratik Republik of Kalifornia.)0 -
I saw a .38 S&W cylinder conversion offered for use on the repro .36 Remington on .44 frame. Originals were called the Rem Navy and Cabela's call it the police version. The reason for this posting is that I checked several .36 cal perc revolvers and all have bores larger than the .38 S&W. That slug would just slide down the bbl and not take the rifling. I originally intended to convert my Cabela's to .38 but changed my mind for that reason and went with .22RF. Hope this closes the loop. 0
