Going for Black Bear in PA. Have access to .308 or should I go to 30.06. Your suggestions? Thanks.

Most people I know that go bear hunting shoot at 100 yards or less, Preferabley as close as you can possiabley get. With this in mind, The 30-06 will really have no addvantage over the 308 win. Sellect a proper bullet for the bear hunt. I'd look at barnes X inat least 165 grain or heavier bullet.

Reason people like to get close for hunting bear is so they can get a good look at the size of the bear, And also the hide and face structure so as to have a nice beautifull mount.

Just for a crap in the pants you could try one at 15 yrds
with the good ol' 44 mag swc 240 gr. The place where I go hiking
into every year, I found bear crap the next morning that was about 3"
diameter, and about enough to fill up a dinner plate.I only had my
glock 23 with me. It probably would have just pissed him off.

Teach them young! Teach them often!

Have to agree with juddroy. I do hunt but what sport is there to hunting bear at 100 Yards over bait. I will never kill a bear unless completely threatened. Just for a mount? Never! I completely dislike
    "head hunting". 101

If I were going black bear hunting I would use my M1A...

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

The sound of a 12 gauge pump clears a house fatser than Rosie O eats a Big Mac !

Either that or I would use a Chipmunk single shot bolt action 22 loaded with .22short CB's... A real bear droper.

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

That was a joke by the way, noticed no one replied, I was just kidding... I wouldn't really use a Chipmunk Rifle for bear hunting, it was a joke, haha...

Rule number one, carry a pistol!!!
Must be a revolver to be legal, here's my story

I was deer hunting in NE PA with my dad and on a drive of a small patch of woods a bush in front of me started moving. Eagerly waiting for a set of horns to jump through the bush I got my Remington 760 6mm pump ready. A black bear came out and headed straight for me, knowing my 6mm pump will be useless at 10 yards and closing, I pulled out my pistol I for some reason felt needed to carry that day. It was a cheap 9mm Beretta semi-auto clone but anyways I put the gun in the air and fired 3 rounds but the bear kept coming. I crouched down with the rifle on my lap and the pistol aimed with a second clip in my right hand as the bear ran 5 yards by me. I almost dropped him in fear of my life... I walked home legs and hands shaking but am glad that day I broke the law. It almost saved me life.
The black bears there are getting human fearless from the sudden build up of homes and I would get a 45/70 if I was you. Don't mess around.

Have to disagree with you Nitrouz on one thing, your 6mm rifle has far more power and penetration (with bullets designed for deer) than any 9mm.
