i don't have my cart. of the world in front of me but i think the 6mm is longer so you cann't just rechamber, you will have to set the barrel back a thread or two. the magazine is the next problem, if the .284 will fit with some clearance ok, if it is tight with factory ammo reloads probably won't work

    bluemule,

Don't ruin the gun by doing that, you won't gain that much for the cost involved. I would leave it original. I'll buy it off you if you want.

BlueMule, Take Bullelks advice and sell the 788 to him. If you want a 6-284, get yourself a 700 action and put a match grade barrel on it chambered by a great gunsmith in 6-284!!! You can buy a 700ADL Synthetic at you local Wally World for 360-400. Unscrew the barrel and have your Shilen, Hart, Douglas, Lilja, or whatever barrel you choose threaded and fitted to the action! Lot more valuable piece than rechambering a 788!! GHD

Thanks for the advice, but I have 3 788 6mm's and the reason for the conversion is the great accuracy that the 788 action has, I have had a 788 in a .308 coverted to a .358 with the original barrel and it
has superb accuarcy meaning lest then 1/2 inch at 100 yds. What are the 6mm's worth.
