870 safety
Ok, I know, but my son is a lefty and wants to shoot my spare right handed 870 12 gauge, I've been told that you can turn the safety around so he can use it the way it should be for a lefty, any ideas??
Thanks Slick

I'm not sure but I don't think you can turn it around. They have made left hand safetys in the past, but I don't think they make them any more.I have one(not for sale)and I believe it was made by Uncle Mikes.

If you have access to drill press etc. or know a good machinest, e-mail me an address & I will send you the info. Be aware of all the liabilities when doing anything to a factory safety.

You can buy him a left handed 870, or have him adapt to the safety on your gun. Iam lt handed and shoot both lt and rt handed shotguns with no problems. If he practices a few days with the gun he can get used to it. 0 -
Buy a Williams big head saftey I think they still make them. I worked for Remington for 28 years building fire controls 25 of those years. Don't drill another hole in the trigger plate to convert it to a left hand saftey you may end up with a double click in the safe or the saftey ball will break thru into the other hole causing the saftey to lock up it has been tried by big green and its not the way to go. Another way to go is to order a new firecontrol thru arms service with a safe the way you want it. 0 -

I have left hand safe for 870, or can refer you to the shop that makes them. Don't know if I can post that info in this forum. 0 -
Ain't it a bit** being left-handed in a right handed world? I started shooting early in life, and being the only leftie in my family, quickly had to adopt to right handed guns. No problem now, but dang it was tough! Let him shoot it and get used to it. Things like bolts and safety will soon become second nature. I hate to lay out the extra dough for left handed guns, and there just isn't much choice. 0 -
I'm right handed, but shoot left. Is that strange or what? Must have been born on a bad year. I'm so used to shooting right-handed guns that it's not a problem for me any more, your son may find he adapts to it just fine. 0 -

Well it was a wild weekend as it was our small game opener, flushed 23 grouse 1st day out and the score was my son 2 and the old man 1, he's doing quite well with the safety as is, had me worried at first but after 2 or 3 birds flushed he quickly had it down.. Thanks for the much needed post's!! Slick.. Now we need to join the local rod and gun club and start busting some clay so we quit missing those delicious birds!!

This may not be an option for you,but I prefer a tang safety.Thats the only thing Ive got against my 870s.But Im right handed.
