ever since 911 transfers are quite difficult. I know some people that sent in a form 4 transfer form last october and have not got the ok from batf yet. 911 made a difficult thing even more difficult, There being very cautious, Perhaps going over board with the power trip. Try calling them and find out what the hold up is.
Another thing, Talk to some other class 3 dealers in your area and ask some questions.

By the way, What state are you in ?

I don't believe the feds are involved in the class 3 to class 3 transaction. Now if you are an individual and buying a full auto from a class 3 dealer, that's when you get involved with the feds. Both of mine took about 6 months. They were applied for in Feb and Mar of this year.

Dealer to dealer transfers on TITLE II firarms are done on ATF form 3. This is tax exempt but still must be approved bt the BATF. Things are slow all over, even for dealers. I did a transfer of a Destructive Device from myself to a police Dept, in Wisconsin and it still took four months for approval! How would you like having the chief call you twice each week! This is done on a ATF Form 5; tax exempt transfers from dealers to government agencies (and others).
There is no known way to speed this process as no one in D.C. is in any particular hurry to see ANYONE get a Title II (Machinegun, silencer, short shotgun ect.) firearm.

New form 3 transfers now running 6 weeks, depending on the examiner.
You get a slow examiner could take 12 weeks max.
Form 4 transfers now running 90days from date of check being cashed
Check out triplebreak.com or subguns.com for list of examiners & how long it takes them to process. Some take 5months, check the examiner!
got 2 form 4's in process, sent paperwork 6/23/02, pending 7/1/02,
approved 9/5/02, now waiting apx 10-14days for mail to bring them.

Lazy bastards, they'll make any excuse not to work...Like a terrorist is going to attempt a Legal transfer of a Class III arm... duh, I don't think so...

Honestly, they should just do an instant Nic&Tics, and then push your form thru for ya, cause a criminal isn't going to apply, I bet they haven't turned down a single applicant years...

If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

RE:Leeblackman _ The ATF approves everything.
    Wish they did.
Back in 1981 in Dallas Tx, I was drinking a beer in the park.
They had just passed a law that stated that no beer was allowed unless your were engauged in an sporting activity and were were 100yds. from the road to consume beer.

Needless to say, I was 150ft off the roadway at a park bench, I was arrested.

Posted bail, etc, case was dismissed..nothing in ncic, but everytime I file for a transfer I have to send in the dismisal, to get approved.
