A leupold vari x 1 is an old design, Not saying its no good, just pointing out that leupold makes modern scpoes with the latest technology, I'd stay away from that one, It may be new in box, but old technology, Unless you can get it for under a hundred bucks. leupold is great with warranty work.

Nikon buckmaster, I cant say much about this one because I never owened one, But there warranty is good, They will send you a small bill for return shipping, and maybe for some labor, But the cost is small, Maybe 15.00-20.00 or so.

If it were me I would hold off buying any of the mentioned choices and save up some more money and buy a more expencive scope like a leupold vari-x 3, But this is just my openion.

i've had great luck with nikon's warranty. haven't had to send anything back to them for many years, but the last time i did the scope was broken in a fall and i had a new one in few weeks for free. they may have changed their warranty program so i'd check with nikon. i have had a 2x7 nikon for years and just love it.

Leupold, never had a problem at all, period. I have no idea
about reliabilty of Nikon or Burris but have fired other friends
arms with these scopes mounted and they appear great. Just partial to
Leupold and have never dropped a rifle that damaged a scope. I do not remeber Leupold's warranty, would have to take it out of the box, been that many years.

the box for my nikon say lifetime limited warranty.....so i suppose if you drop the gun out the door of your pickup and then the pickups runs over the scope and breaks it i would guess its not covered.:-)

Even though the VXI is so called old tech, its quality is unequaled by the lesser nikons. If the Nikon was a Monarch it may be as good as the VXI but the buckmaster is a glorified simmons. Same price? Go Leupold. Check out some of the horror stories on the nikon thread in this forum, youll not hear stories like that about Leupold service.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

Hey all- Thanks for the help and replies.
I WAS going to get the Leupold VAR1. However, when I went to the shop to buy it, they had a Var2, new in box, for 20 dollars more than the Var1. I got the Var2. Putting it on my recently purchased rifle now. OH BOY!
I cant wait to go to the range!
    Thanks again.
Sorry-meant to say VX, but said VAR-
"Sometimes the people have to give up some individual rights for the safety of society."

All I know is that I own a dozen or so Leupolds and the Leupold Warranty is one of the best in the industry. I had a horse fall in colorado and bust up my scope I sent it to Leupold and told them what had happened and they sent me a new scope, It don't get any better than that. In fact I have bought used Leupolds and sent them in to be checked out and when I got them back they looked new. I guess what I'm trying to say is you can't go wrong with a Leupold Scope.

    Salzo,
As you know, I'm a ardent believer in high end German scopes ( Schmidt & Bender, Zeiss, Etc) but when it comes to other scopes, Leupold or Bushnell Elite 4200 is the way to go.

Let Nikon stick to what they know best, and that's cameras. I've had damn good service from Leupold (and Bushnell as well) on their scopes. One of the best warranty programs in the world and they do make a damn good scope.

    You made a good choice.
