What is your favorite compact 1911?
I've been tossing around the idea of getting a compact 19ll; but there are too many that look enticing. Kimber, Springfield, Para-Ordinance, Colt. They all make 'em. G&A gives them all good reviews(as they do w/ every gun). I want SA, but I would consider a DA(like the Para). I guess what I'd really like to hear is actual testimony from the people who carry them. What are your favorite 1911s? Do any of you shoot one in .40 S&W?
Thanks for your input,
Ben

I would go for the Colt Defender. Light, reliable, accurate and its a Colt. 0 -
I agree with royce38. My Defender has been perfect since day one. No failures of any kind. Light, small, as in concealable, and it is a Colt. They did this one right!
Without the NRA, the second ammendment would already be gone!0 -
My favorite compact 1911A1 that I own is a Colt Officer's Model. Trigger Job and Amb. Safety completed by a great local pistol smith at a reasonable cost. Very accurate and reliable.
Guns only have two enemies: Rust and Liberals....0 -
I have shot a Colt Defender I liked it.
I currently own a Kimber Ultra Carry; Lightweight frame, accurate, reliable, and concealable.
The Para DAO's are hard to get used to.0 -
Currently have a Colt Defender and Springfield V10 Super Tuned. I just can't beat the Defender for carry. I did have a problem with the Defender but Colt repaired and returned within 2 weeks. No other problems in the next 1500 rounds. A steady diet of +P or +P+ is not recommended by me for the light alloy frame of the Defender. The V10ST has proven to be utterly reliable but it is a heavy steel gun and the porting while very effective is VERY loud with tremendous muzzle flash.

I'd say get a Colt Defender O, they are totally sweet for carry...
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.
The sound of a 12 gauge pump clears a house fatser than Rosie O eats a Big Mac !0 -
I'll agree with Saxonpig except my 1911a1 commander is .45acp. Most all 1911's are really to big for concealed carry but mine goes with me everywhere! I once heard a concealed carry instructor say a firearm should feel comforting not comfortable! 0 -
One word:KIMBER!
Completely RELIABLE and a LOT more gun for the money
I really like my Pro-Carry CDP

I think Colt is the BEST The first one I had was in 1966 in Nam' It was an OLD 1911.. You could do anything to it, and it would shoot! I carry the Officer's SS most of the time now. I have 2 Defender's And Glock's.... They all shoot good! Best thing to do is, try to find someone that has the Defender and the Officer.. Shoot each of them, Then you be the Judge on the gun's.. One may feel better to you than the other, AND Grips make a big difference, wood, rubber, finger grooves... Lots to think about. But TYR before you BUY.
It will hurt you, More than it will hurt me..0 -
