No. The first is the classic 7mm mauser, made for Spain and Chile and others. The second is the classic German mauser, also called 7.92x57. The third, I don't know.

No they are different. 8X56 is a propriatory cartridge of Styer, the company that made the Mannlicher Shoenauer rifles and carbines. 7X57 is also known as the 7mm Mauser. 8mm doesn't really mean anthing except a bore diameter. There were numerous 8mm cartridges made in Europe. 8X57 is also known as the 8mm Mauser. There is also an 8X60, 8X57JR that is used in drillings and double rifles, and others. The J means the bore diameter is .318. The R means it is a rimmed cartridge. The 8mm in .323 diameter is known as the S bore. The German model 98 mausers were in 8X57 cal. with the .323 bore but they were marked 7.9mm on the barrel. I could go on but you are probably confused enough. One more item, the second number, after the X, is the cartridge length in mm.

And.....just a bit more yet. The 8x56Rmm is seldom encountered nowadays in anything other than the straight pull bolt military rifles that are being currently imported; and in fact, have been imported in quantity for years. It was widely used by Austria-Hungary in W.W.I, and to a lesser extent in W.W.II. No one in the U.S. currently loads it, but components are available. Probably best to stay away from this one, usless you are a collector or advanced reloader. The 8x57mm (7.92mm)commonly called the 8mm Mauser was the mainstay of Germany and several other countries in W.W.I and II and has been widely used around the world as a sporting cartridge as well. The 7x57mm commonly called the 7mm Mauser was originally used by Spain as a military cartridge, and was also widely used in South America and South Africa. This is an excellent cartridge for deer size animals and happens to be my personal favorite. Both the 7mm and 8mm Mauser cartridges are loaded by all major ammunition companies, surplus rifles are available for both, and modern sporting rifles have been chambered for these cartridges in recent years.
